Securing Land and Housing for People Reentering Our Communities.

The Ruchell Cinqué Magee Community Land Trust works to acquire and steward land for the development of stable, affordable housing for people returning from incarceration and families impacted by the justice system. Through community ownership and long-term land stewardship, we are building pathways to housing stability, economic opportunity, and collective security

We are building a community-controlled land model that removes property from speculative markets and places it into permanent, mission-driven stewardship. By aligning land, housing development, and reentry support, we are creating long-term stability for individuals and families who have been systematically excluded from homeownership and generational wealth.

What is a Community Land Trust?

Formerly incarcerated people are experiencing a housing crisis in California. California’s housing market is one of the most expensive in the nation, making it nearly impossible for low-income individuals, including those recently released from prison, to afford stable housing. The Ruchell Cinqué Magee Community Land Trust is part of a network of CLTs in California working to build solutions to these issues.

What does a Community Land Trust Do?

A community land trust can address these challenges by providing stable, affordable housing tailored to the needs of formerly incarcerated individuals. By offering long-term, supportive housing solutions, the CLT can help break the cycle of homelessness and recidivism, promote reintegration into society, and create opportunities for building generational wealth.

Housing is a right, and returning residents should be able to access dignified and long-term housing solutions that are not driven by market pricing.
